VC ADAMAWA STATE UNIVERSITY CONGRATULATIONS.

July 20, 2016
The Vice-Chancellor,
Adamawa State University,
Mubi.
Adamawa State.
Dear Sir/Ma,
CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN UNIVERSITY
ADMINISTRATION: THE 20 MOST OUTSTANDING
VICE-CHANCELLORS IN NIGERIA.
University institutions are reputed worldwide as
centres of excellence that effectively drive socio-
economic development of their respective
nations.
As research centres and citadels of learning,
universities institutions provides the requisite
skilled man-power resources and other basic
research information, needed for national
development.
It is in this regard, that most countries worldwide,
place a lot of premium on sound educational
system as the engine of growth of their respective
nations. Nigeria is not an exception.
Over the years, human capital development has
been a major policy objective of various
administrations in Nigeria.
To achieve this noble objective, the university
educational system was deregulated, to stimulate
competition and provide the necessary human
capital resources, that will enable government
achieve set goals and objectives.
Unlike in other climes, most universities in Nigeria
have to a great extent, failed to live up to the
acronym as centres of excellence.
Due to a combination of factors, such as
inadequate funding, poor infrastructural facilities,
inadequate and in some cases, a near absence of
research facilities, poor
and inadequate staffing, as well as incompetent
management that cannot effectively drive the
system, the products of most Nigerian universities
are sub-standard and cannot just justify the
certificates that they parade in the market place.
The consequence is that most of the graduates
are not employable and are therefore
discriminated against in an economy with a low
productive base, thereby exacerbating the high
level of graduate unemployment, as currently
witnessed in Nigeria.
The poor state of some Nigerian universities is
manifest in their poor yearly ratings by global
rating agencies, as Webometric Rankings of
Universities across the world, with only a few of
the outstanding institutions able to satisfy the
standard set by the agencies.
Interestingly however, despite all the challenges,
some Nigerian universities have effectively
distinguished themselves as veritable centres of
excellence, as they are yearly rated among the
best in West-Africa and the African by global
rating agencies.
Driven by competent management teams, these
universities have become the leading lights of
excellence in Nigeria’s educational system, as
their products can compete effectively anywhere
in the world.
In tandem with its tradition of recognizing and
celebrating excellence in management. The
Nation newspaper has concluded a nationwide
survey of the most outstanding Vice-chancellors,
whose remarkable ingenuity and managerial
excellence, has made their institutions
outstanding, amidst daunting challenges. They
are the 20 Role Models of University
Administration in Nigeria that others should
emulate.
